Revelation 1:3 (King James Version)
3Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
Wow, again we have a powerful verse here talking about the reality of the book of Revelation and how it fits in with the rest of the written word.
You must come to an understanding of who you are in Christ before the Spirit of God can work the miracles that He is supposed to be working through you in these last days.
Yes, I do most definitely believe we are at the time of the end and as we get further into the book of Revelation that will become all the more clear.
The book of Revelation however is not just about the time of the very end, it is about the entire time from the ressurection of Christ until the time when all things will be fulfilled.
One particular word that I want to focus on in this verse is the word keep.
Keep actually means to watch or hold fast to in this context.
It is sometimes easy to look over simple words in scripture, but sometimes the simplist of words can have the most meaning.
G5083
τηρέω
tēreō
tay-reh’-o
From τηρός teros (a watch; perhaps akin to G2334); to guard (from loss or injury, properly by keeping the eye upon; and thus differing from G5442, which is properly to prevent escaping; and from G2892, which implies a fortress or full military lines of apparatus), that is, to note (a prophecy; figuratively to fulfil a command); by implication to detain (in custody; figuratively to maintain); by extension to withhold (for personal ends; figuratively to keep unmarried): — hold fast, keep (-er), (ob-, pre-, re) serve, watch.
We are living in a time when things are happening very quickly. Technology has pushed us into overdrive and it is often easier to get caught up in the eb and flow of life, not really thinking about the things that are going on in the world around us.
It is clear here however that we are to watch for the fulfillment of these things in scripture and hold fast to what is written, not only in observance, but in the actions that we take and the way that we live our lives.
Mark 13
32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. 33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. 34 For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. 35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: 36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. 37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
No man has even known the day or the hour that they were going to leave this world. We are all living by every breath of God and by the power of His Word.
We are going to uncover some pretty amazing things as we go through the book of Revelation, but before we even get started going through this book we need to realize who God has called us to be in this life and what a great responsibility that you and I have.
We have been given the gift of life through Christ Jesus our Lord and we must hold ourselves to the standard as if He were coming tomorrow. After all, He very well could be…
